You couldn’t have asked for a better day to ride your bycicle, perfect weather, a slight tail wind, and temps in the low 80’s, and glorious sunshine the whole day!!
Running into all kinds of familiar people throughout the day was enjoyable. But it was especially nice to see this guy pedaling his way along the trail!!

Our oldest son Thomas and myself started our ride from our home in Hibbing, and made our way to pick up Z and J from their starting point at the 25 mile starting point in Buhl. Mn. 15 miles from our house along the Mesabi Trail.
While they waited for Thomas and myself in Buhl……. Z getting the bikes off.
And the kids representing for our troops!!!
In years past I’ve always started at the beginning of the tour; the 73 mile mark. This year due to things beyond anyone’s control that couldn’t happen.
What a difference of relaxation and just plain enjoyment in my time with our children starting from our home!! I think this will become the norm for this weekend!!
After a little bit over an hour of pedaling Thomas and I arrived in Buhl, and the fun began for us as a family!
The kids got to demo kayaks and paddle boards put on by Spring Creek Outfitters, in an abandoned mine pit near the 25 mile starting point in Buhl, Mn.
After an hour or so we were ready to make our way to the finish line 25 miles away!!
This fine gentleman stopped just as we were getting ready to head out. After a few pictures, we were off.
Pugzilla killing it on his FatBike!!
A few hours later we were crossing the finish line.
The kids looking pretty fresh after 25 miles!! I guess all the miles we put on up to this point had paid off!! π
After a short wait, Mr. Brian crossed the finish line and we got to hang out with a fine human being!!
This man is a favorite of our children, and with good reason!
All photo’s were taken by this fine women!!
Thanks Mom/Cindi…. Love the shirt!!
All in all, another awesome GRE Mesabi Trail Tour!!
Also, we are so very proud of our children!!
While we as a family had an awesome time, and always will at this ride….the kids got A LOT of encouragement from passing riders!! Which is always really cool.
One thing as a father/parent that was disturbing this year, was the people who had negative comments!!!!
“Why would you make them ride those bikes?”
“Pedaling those bikes can’t be fun!”
“It takes so much more effort to pedal those bikes!”
Are just a few examples……
I’d smile and say they ride them all the time, and this is nothing!! If you could’ve been in my head, well your ears would’ve fallen off!!
And to the adult lady at the finish line making the negative comments about the kids on their FatBikes….. let’s just say you can consider yourself lucky I was having a whaler time with my children and didn’t give you an ear full for your true asshole comments as the kids crossed the line!!!
Besides, it would’ve ruined the awesome day for everyone within ear shot!
It’s not like Cindi and myself make our children pedal their FatBikes as punishment!
Ask the children if they like pedaling their FatBikes…… they’ll give you a better answer than I would!! π
Per example….. a boy J’s age says “why do you have a bike with such big tires?” J’s reply without missing a beat…. “because they’re more fun!!”
Love my kids!!!! LOL
Another thing that was discussed before bed late Saturday night….. that if God rode a bike, it would be a FatBike!! π
On to the Fiddlin’ Fifty on August 22nd!
